Childhood and Media

Last time we talked about how a majority of culture can affect other culture thus to influence our viewing material from media. This time I am talking about some TV shows or cartoons for children that would thus deeply integrate the root of foreign culture.

Ever since I was a child, I was influenced by cartoons. If there were anyone that said I didn't watch ANY cartoons during his childhood age, I would probably be so surprised. Cartoons nowadays can be divided into three major categories. One is cartoons that from Japan, one from U.S., one from Chinese society. In my personal experience, most of cartoons I watched in early age were from Japan and U.S.

The famous Cartoon Network channel not only makes many children nearsighted but also influences the formation of their values toward the world. Children are like sponges that will absorb anything they watched, anything they listened, anything they learned. So by looking at the dresses of those cartoon figures, children will try to imitate their dressing and the story or the values the cartoons trying to express would be absorbed by children. When we grew up, we may experience lots of reconstruction of our core value, maybe those we learned at childhood would probably forget or lost. However, since you have learned that before, when you touch or contact those information again, you will become very familiar with that. It's more like learning riding a bike, when you once learn this skill, you can automatically take back the skill again, even if you haven't ridden a bike for a very long long time.  We tend to accept those information we've read or watched more easier than those we read at first time. That's why it's very important to filter what children can watch, what they cannot.

Our entrepreneur don't seem to have a big interest in children media. They don't think this would help them make money or would do any help to his enterprise. But the benefit is certain in a long term way. By looking Pokemon and Hello Kitty, you can know it's a very big industry and it does make you money.

Probably the business mode now require to earn profit in an early stage. A company must gain its profit steady and fast. It cannot withstand a blank page in the company's money flow. Our government also takes little action to raise children program industries. Perhaps it's not economical in short term but I hope I can see more work invested in cartoons and TV programs one day.
