Media and Culture Effect(1)

If you turn on a TV now, you can see most of the news channel would report the melancholy tragic about 20 lovely kids were killed by a teenager out of his mind. This is a tragic that shock the whole world and most of the world have taken different actions to soothe victims' sorrow. I feel really sad to the victims and anger to the murderer. How cruel is he can he kill so many innocent and beautiful children. At the same time,  news reported that in China, a man brought a knife to elementary school trying to kill innocent children. No one were killed in this tragedy. Of course, this crucial part results in less news amount from media. But from a larger scale of view, you will find out whole world, almost entire world, pay their attention to the news or at least know the news. What makes this different? I think we should talk about how culture effect media.

Main culture

Living in modern world, most of our information come from news report, internet. So how we conceive the world, how we know about the world, you can say is actually controlled by media. Therefore how content to be chose to broadcast plays an really important role. Usually, media reports news that they think their audience would like it or they report a content that someone pay money to make media report. Well, the later one is a different story, though. Here, how content makes our audience interested? People grew up from society. So we will be affected by our surroundings. What our parents watch, what they think will definitely affect our later development of value toward the world. Your parents also follow this pattern to develop their own value toward the world. But the external force, i.e. foreign culture will also affect our thinking. For example, our habit to wear suite during working is from western culture. Even our modern cloth style is from western culture. So when broadcasting news, media would prefer the so-called main stream, here would be western culture or in precise, american culture. The famous Gangnam style, Jeremy Lin is all famous from american market, then they can be sold to whole world. In other world, if you can win main culture market, you can win the world in most cases. But to a society that information are spreading relatively slow, like China, all you need to succeed is to copy the already-success american business. The scale of Chinese market will help your business run smoothly without bankrupt. All you need is to localize those features invented by others. Rinrin net(人人網) is a copycat of Facebook. Xiaomi(小米) cell phone is trying to manipulate iPhone's experience and make Xiaomi phone as the iPhone of android.

So... if you don't have a great idea and want to make a huge business, just follow the trend in western and localize it mainland China.
